Dear Friends,
The economic, moral, and leadership crises facing America and the church’s impending task to make disciples of all nations bring us back once again to our utter dependence upon God. Perhaps never in history have we stood at a more critical crossroads. The futures of nations and churches are at stake. Even so, God continues to give us opportunity to humble ourselves, repent, pray, and seek his face.
As we lay the foundation for the 2010 National Missionary Convention in Lexington, Kentucky and stand at the threshold of a new decade, we are asking for your help. We are seeking faithful Christians to recruit three volunteers (a total of four in each group) who will agree to pray and fast weekly during the next two years for an initiative we’re calling Project 132.
We’re praying that God will raise up 33 groups of four, a total of 132 people, to join us in launching Project 132. The model we’ve chosen for Project 132 is based on Acts 13:2 (where the Holy Spirit set apart the first missionaries while the early church was fasting and praying together). We’re asking these teams of four to pray and fast weekly from March 2009 to November 2010. The arrangements for these groups may vary. Some groups may choose to pray together, while others may choose to pray individually but with mutual accountability (phone calls, e-mails, and so on).
The theme for NMC 2010 is “Harvest of Hope,” focusing on the impact we can make in the world for Christ in the new decade. We’re asking that the prayers of your group focus not only on the present crises we face as a nation, but on the following areas of mission as well:
• New recruits for evangelism and missions
• New churches established
• New translations for those who do not have the Scriptures in their language
• New countries and people groups reached
• New prayer initiatives launched
We plan to consolidate and publish goals in these areas from across the country and around the world at the 2010 convention.
Mordecai’s challenge to Esther might be rephrased for us: “Who knows but that we have come to this position for such a time as this?” Would you be willing to recruit a group of four people to fast and pray in this way? If the Lord wills, we plan to move far beyond our initial goal of 33 teams.
Thank you for considering this plea. If you choose to participate in this initiative, we’d love to hear from you so we can keep track of the teams that are fasting and praying across the country and around the world. If you would like to receive occasional e-mail updates on this prayer initiative, please write to us at either of the following e-mail addresses and we’ll add you to the growing list.
May God bless you as you “Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field” (Matthew 9:38). |L
