No, that wasn’t a misspelling. I had confidence in the sun to come up this morning. It did. I count on its light so that farmers can grow crops that I can eat. Some count on its light hitting solar panels to provide electricity. I count on it to provide warmth outside. People make accurate predictions about it. The local weatherman has confidence in it too. He can predict the exact minute the sun will rise and set. Unlike temperatures, he never gives a range for sunrise. Unlike weather, he never gives a percent chance that the sun will rise. He has confidence in it.
Confidence in the Son
Our confidence in Jesus can be surer than the weatherman’s confidence in the sun. After all, the one our hope (confidence) is in made the sun and put it in its place. It is through Jesus that our universe was made. Jesus also sustains the creation by his Word. The weatherman’s confidence is the result of Jesus’ power and trustworthiness. As Christians we trust Jesus with our lives. Our future (for eternity) is completely in his hands. We are in very capable hands, as it turns out. If you are ever concerned or in doubt about that, the book of Hebrews is here to remind us why we have put our hope in Jesus. At the top of the list of reasons is the fact that Jesus is God’s Son, which means that Jesus is powerful and loving. It means that he is God. We should never put our hope in anything else. Jesus alone is worthy of our trust and confidence.
As Paul said in 1 Timothy 4:10, “we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe.” Yes, we have put our hope in God’s Son. He has already saved us. Con-tinue trusting in him. |L
