Have you ever had one of those days when you feel completely disconnected from God? We have.
Distant from God
On those days, we feel like God lives so far outside our sphere of existence that nothing we do could ever bring us closer to him. How could such a big God understand our small concerns? Even our big concerns seem too small. On days like those we remember Job, not just to remind ourselves that things could always get worse, but to remind ourselves that Christians have a hope Job didn’t have. In the midst of his agony he wished he could talk to the God from whom he felt so separated. “He is not a man like me that I might answer him, that we might confront each other in court. If only there were someone to arbitrate between us, to lay his hand upon us both, someone to remove God’s rod from me, so that his terror would frighten me no more. Then I would speak up without fear of him, but as it now stands with me, I cannot” (Job 9:32-35).
Jesus, our High Priest
Hebrews 4:14-16 reminds us that we have that arbitrator, that ambassador. Jesus became a human, lived like a human, and suffered like a human. Because of that we have confidence that he can relate to our concerns. We can approach the throne of God without fear. When our problems feel overwhelming or confusing, we can have the courage to approach God and pray. We have a high priest who connected with us, and because of his effort, we can connect with him too. Remember our intercessor. No matter how menial you feel, you need have no fear. Go ahead, embolden yourself and approach him. He will listen. |L
