Soon we are going to be electing the next president of the United States. We look for a number of characteristics or traits in our president. Many of them can be summarized in the term “leadership.” Leadership is a buzzword in businesses these days. Everyone wants a good leader. It is easy to follow a good leader. It makes what we do easier when we have a good leader.
Importance of Choosing a Leader
We carry out an important task when we choose our country’s leader. We have an even bigger and more important task when we choose a leader for our lives. We can choose to follow a TV star, a role model, or maybe even ourselves (like the “be-your-own-boss” ads suggest). If you’ve had to follow people you didn’t think were good leaders, you know the importance of choosing the right leader.
Choosing the Leader
When choosing a leader for your life, there is no better choice than Jesus. In the book of Acts, Christians were sometimes referred to as being members of “The Way.” Jesus has made a way for us. He paved the way; let’s follow him. We can do this best by studying his Word. One of our favorite songs is “I’m Using My Bible For a Roadmap” because of this mental picture.
As we journey through life with the goal of Heaven, the book of Hebrews encourages us to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. We must become good at “follow-the-leader.” Jesus, our leader, has been through things similar to what we go through. He has the experience. He is God, so he has the knowledge. He led by example and he is our best example to follow. He is able to help us. He cares about us. He has all the traits of a good leader. He is the only one fully qualified to be our leader. Let us continue on confidently, with map in hand and our eyes on our leader, Jesus. |L
