I (Tabi) get teased quite a bit about how quickly I can change my mind. I can know exactly what I want when we pull up to the drive-thru at a fast food restaurant, and change my entire order by the time I leave.
Changed My Mind
I have also been known to change my mind as to where to go en route to my destination, change my clothes 10 times before I go to church, or change my recipes halfway through cooking my meal. I even changed the content of this article several times before I finally decided what to say. My husband, Mike, doesn’t usually trust my first decision about anything, because he knows I’ll probably change my mind about it. Fortunately for us, we trust a God who does not change his mind as quickly as I do.
Christ the Unchanging One
In life, we often need something on which to steady ourselves, and Christ is the perfect anchor for our faith. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever,” says the author of Hebrews (Hebrews 13:8). We place our trust in a God who doesn’t change, who has remained the same since eternity past, and will remain the same forever. He calls himself “i am.” He was i am to the Jews, and Christ said, “Before Abraham was born, i am!” (John 8:58) When he makes a statement, we can trust that his words won’t change. We can trust his nature, his life, and his promises. We can cling to his steadiness and weather whatever storm comes our way. In a world full of skeptics and fads and changes, we need Christ, our Rock. We need Christ, who won’t change his plans, or his love, or his greatness. What a comfort to run to him and hear him tell us, “Here am I” (Isaiah 58:9). |L
