Those who supported California’s marriage-protection amendment—including the Mormon Church—have faced violence and intimidation following its passage.
But marriage advocates are standing strong. No Mob Veto, a project of the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, ran a full-page ad in The New York Times calling for an end to the outrageous acts of intolerance by opponents of Prop. 8. It was signed by more than a dozen religious leaders, including Chuck Colson.
The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) launched a new Web site to help Californians facing threats to their livelihoods over their support for Prop 8.
“The new McCarthyism is just as wrong as the old,” said Brian Brown, executive director of NOM. “Instead of responding in kind with a boycott or threats, NOM aims to rise above the hate by offering a ‘buycott’—a chance for Californians to show their support for basic human decency by supporting people and businesses targeted by anti-Prop. 8 forces.”
In addition, NOM will be launching radio ads across California to rally support for the targeted businesses.
