Family advocates are concerned by the so-called Safe Schools Improvement Act introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives. The anti-bullying bill would require many public schools to add special protections for students based on sexual orientation and gender identity, in addition to race and religion. The Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSN) applauded the legislation, but Candi Cushman, a pro-family activist, said all children deserve the same protection from bullies. “It’s possible to have safe schools and to have strong policies against bullying,” she said, “without introducing controversial sexual topics to kids or politicizing our schools with adult agendas.”
