An award-winning song in Italy is angering gay activists with its message that unwanted homosexuality can be overcome. In fact, some in the pro-gay movement have petitioned the Italian government to prevent the song from getting played. The song, translated “Luca Used to Be Gay,” is biographical. Efforts to have the song banned from a music festival failed; it actually won second place for singer Giuseppe Povia. And despite the activists’ efforts to undermine the message of the song, it wasn’t just festival judges, but the festival audience, that seemed to embrace the lyrics that spotlight the truth that people can change their sexual orientation.
