for Small Groups Based on the
International Sunday School Lesson Text.
1. Early in this passage Moses is pleading with God to let him out of this mission. When have you tried to run from a mission God gave you? Describe what happened.
Read Exodus 4:10-16, 27-31
2. It appears Moses needed help accomplishing the mission. Who was the helper and why was he chosen to aid Moses?
3. Explain verses 11 and 12 in your own words. How would you rewrite these words in today’s language?
4. What made God angry in verse 14? Explain.
5. Moses was a great leader who accomplished incredible things for God. We also see that he lacked confidence and needed help to complete what God had laid before him. Do you think most leaders have the same vulnerabilities and struggles as they lead?
6. When is it acceptable for a leader to say, “I can’t accomplish this without help”? What is the role of humility in leadership? What is your definition of leadership based upon what we are learning about Moses?
7. In verse 31, the elders bow and worship God. Why do they do this? What are they thinking about God at this point in Israel’s history?
8. If Moses sat down to pen his “What I’ve Learned About God” sermon, what do you think he is learning? Look back over the passage and jot down a couple of things that describe God’s personality and character.
9. Group prayer: Ask group members to talk about how God has provided for them over the past week. Ask how they hope God will provide in the coming week. |L
