Where you Live—Questions and Activities for Small Groups for June 21, 2015

By Michael C. Mack

1. Which would you choose and why?

• a night in a luxurious hotel

• a meal in a five-star restaurant

• a chance to sing or jam with your favorite singer/band

• a lotion that makes you look 20 years younger

Read Amos 6:4-8, 11-14.

2. What words would you use to describe the people to whom Amos wrote?

3. What words did God use to describe how he felt about them? What do those words tell you about God?

4. What makes it wrong to live comfortably and enjoy worldly pleasures?

5. How would you compare Amos’s audience to people in American churches today?

6. What might God say to a group today that sits on comfy couches and chairs, dines on choice food and desserts, reads this passage, and then leaves to do nothing about the ruin of their nation?

7. (Suggestion: Meet in pairs or triads for this last question and then pray.) How does this passage convict you about your own life or about your group concerning complacency? selfishness? pride?
